6 Lefty Guitar Payers You Haven’t Heard Of..But Should Have!

Neal Beedie September 2, 2010 3

YouTube is a fantastic source of inspiration for musicians and as such, i’m a fairly heavy user.  Sure I have the obligatory subscriptions to awesome people like Freddie Wong and Community Channel but for the most part the bulk of my subs are other musicians – guitarists or otherwise.

So today I want to share with you a few of my subscriptions who I feel are ‘must-view’ material and just happen to be badass lefty players!  Outside of YouTube you’ve probably never heard of these people, but here are 6 of them who you should definitely look into.

Carlos Vamos

YouTube guitarnica

Carlos is a monster player from Holland.  He is most well known for his acoustic version of ‘Little Wing’ which at present has received over one million views!  The video really provides a great example of why choosing to play guitar the way you are naturally inclined is the way to go.  Carlos uses an impressive 8-finger tapping technique where his dominant left hand is clearly doing the hardest job.  I couldn’t imagine trying to learn this piece right handed!! Enjoy…

Andy Rehfeldt

Andy only has one video (an interview) where you can actually see him playing guitar, but that one video is enough to show us his lefty ways.  He’s a fantastically skilled player who is able to play in a seemingly neverending variety of genres.  He is well known on YouTube for taking songs and putting a completely different musical spin on them, for example check out his ‘smooth jazz’ version of Metallica’s ‘Enter Sandman’ below.  When you read Metallica and ‘smooth jazz’ in one sentence you’re probably thinking it’s going to be woeful….wrong!

Michael Staun

Michael is a rather crazy player from Denmark who always manages to put a smile on my face with his antics.  He does have several channels with different music, but you will be able to find them all from the link above. All you need to know is that he has one ridiculously small guitar, and ridiculously large guitar!  In this video I love how he chose to stand in front of a miniature house, it just looks….hilarious!

I could’t find out what Lenon’s full name was, but he is a kick-ass player from Paraguay.  If you are into technical shred/fusion style playing then I think you’ll have to agree that he is one of the more talented unsigned artists around.  Check out his entry for an Andy James guitar competition below, he should totally enter Guitar Idol this year!

Maycown Reichembach

Due to his unforgettable name you may remember we featured one of Maycown’s songs in the first week of Guitar Idol updates.  Well the guy certainly is no one trick pony as his YouTube channel is chock full of great music, including this great funky fusion inspired solo that he ‘created for the soul’.  Check out ‘Flying Elephant’ below.

Marc Playle

What can I say about Marc – the guy is a true inspiration.  Despite his obvious disability Marc has come up with an innovative way of overcoming it and is easily a better player than the majority on YouTube.  I don’t know for sure if he is actually a lefty, but no doubt playing right handed would not have been a viable option!  Check out his entry for Guitar Idol 2009 ‘Narcosis’  below.

Are there any other awesome lefty YouTubers you follow?  List them in the comments!

Do you have any idea what guitar Lenon is playing? That thing is beautiful.

Hey Jeffrey. Lenon is playing a Tagima T Zero S which is a Brazilian brand. 27 frets!
