A local oz forum has a thread for importing a guitar. Most stories are positive, beyond the angst of waiting.

I considered it, given retail prices in oz are really poor and lefty selection of the big names is worse, but as a newb I thought it better to buy what I can try.

I was set on a LP, but after trying some they didn't feel right. I didn't get a brand name guitar, but it seems to be sound, stay in tune and sounds better with new stings on it too. The local shop I got it from said he'd look after me if it were ever a problem.
