Oh Wow!!! Cool band Steve, all great muso's & I love Steely Dan.
Looks like Blacky has done some gigs
When you think about it no wonder guys like your friend Ben are such good players can you imagine how many gigs you would have to do to distress a guitar like that & I wouldn't mind betting that is from a lot of work & not faked.
EDIT:: I just Googled your friend Ben & found his website I reckon he has done a lot of gigs
Mate I would be round his place quick smart & sign up for a few lessons
http://benshermanguitar.com/home.htmlI remember what that Strat was new.... 30+ years ago.
Ben joined his first band in the mid 70s, and played this same guitar with them until they disolved in the mid 80s, which is when he formed this band.
These same 4 guys, Hectic Red... have been playing gigs in Maryland together for 25 years.
He's also part of a 10 member Steely Dan revue, and does acoustical solos at local pubs.
Another thing Ben does that I thinks is great is he goes to the inner city Library in Baltimore with his classical guitar and plays for the youngsters there, most of which have likely never even heard live music before.
He's a pure musician, all the way.
Funny thing... this band was playing very close to my home last Saturday night, so I went to see them, and took my Telecaster along because Ben wanted to check it out. He tried to play it, and it was the first time I'VE EVER seen him get lost on a fretboard.
Another friend of Bens came by with his rightie guitar... which Ben had never even seen before. He played a song in the 2nd set with that, and then picked it up to close the third set ... with Bodishatva.
He played Bodishatva with a guitar he'd only ever had in his hands for one song beforehand.
I may be biased, but I'll Stack Ben against anybody I've ever heard play locally, or Nationally. To see him play live is stunning.
I'd love to take lessons from Ben, and he wants to teach me, but time, schedules, and distance are too much of a challenge to get to him regularly enough right now. He's in my future though.
