Xmas Stocking Fillers For Guitarists

Neal November 30, 2011 15

Christmas is edging closer and it’s time to start thinking about gifts to get for friends and family.  If you’re having trouble deciding what to get for a guitarist friend or you just want ideas for what to ask for yourselves, then check out this list of fifty of the best (and worst!) stocking fillers for musicians.

Nothing in the list is prohibitively expensive; these are all definitely Xmas stocking filler material!

Xmas Gift Ideas for Guitarists

Books

Who doesn’t love a good book?  Here are some of my personal favorites.

  • Guitar Tone: Pursuing the Ultimate Guitar Sound – link
  • How to Make Your Electric Guitar Play Great – link
  • Zen Guitar – link

Cables

Although a good cable should last for years, the punishment they get going from gig to gig is unrelenting.

  • Fender Performance Guitar Cable – link
  • Hosa Cable GTR Guitar Cable – link
  • Planet Waves Classic Series Instrument Cable – link

Fret Wraps

Everyone should have a set of GruvGear string dampeners to help get that perfect take! My review.

  • GruvGear FretWraps String Muters – link

Gig Bag

A good, quality gigbag will ensure that you get from A to B safely.

  • Popular Gigbags – link

Guitar Maintenance Supplies

Keep those guitars in tip-top condition.

  • Big Bends Nutsauce Guitar Lubricant – link

Picks

Us guitarists are ALWAYS losing picks.  Seriously, they seem to vanish into a black hole as soon as they hit the floor.

  • Planet Waves Assorted Pearl Celluloid Guitar Picks – link
  • Fender Premium Picks Sample Pack – link
  • Dunlop Pick Variety Pack – link

Stands and Wall Hangers

Don’t be that guy who props their guitar up against a wall.  Make sure you have a safe spot to store your instruments when not in use.

  • Musicians Gear Tubular Stand – link
  • Hercules Auto-Grip – link
  • Planet Waves Guitar Rest – link
  • String Swing Wall Hanger – link

Straps

Has your trusty strap seen better days? Check out a selection of popular guitar straps here, complete with player reviews.

String Winder

Save yourself a ton of time when restringing, and they tidy up and loose string ends.

Ooookay, I think we’ll wrap this article up now before I start losing your respect … wait … what do you mean you left after the guitar pens!? :(

So there you have it folks – the useful, the novelty, and the downright ridiculous stocking fillers for your guitarist friends.  Choose wisely and have a great Xmas!

I love the Hendrix bobblehead, they look ace! Good tip about the magazine subscription too, I just saw that Total Guitar are giving a free mini-amp when you subscribe, prolly worth £30 or so!

I saw that amp yeah, actually seems like a cool little gizmo – I'd be scared I'd end up keeping it!

Hi Neal, will you be doing an article on amps ?
You could split it into 4 categorizes.
        1 Performance
        2 Annoy the neighbours
        3 Practice
        4 Mini/Pocket
I already have an annoy the neighbours amp, but are considering an Epi junior practice amp and maybe a battery pocket amp for the beach camping holls.

I will eventually yes, but I haven't used an amp for over 5 years now and don't see myself doing so in the future. I'll get around to it :)

I can’t remember where I spotted them, but you’ll most likely find them on Amazon or eBay.
