Stagg : Left-Handed Guitars, Basses, Banjos and Mandolins

Stagg is a Belgium based musical instrument company, founded in 1995.  They produce a large number of affordable instruments and accessories, including guitars, basses, drums, pianos, banjos, mandolins and a variety of wind instruments.

Stagg churns out a hefty number of left-handed guitars and basses, but also produces a few harder to find left-handed niche instruments such as banjos and mandolins.  There should be something for everyone inside the Stagg catalogue, and their prices are well within almost anyone’s reach – good times!

Too many to list! Stagg produces an impressive range of 39 left-handed instruments, including electric guitars and basses, acoustic and classical guitars, banjos, mandolins.  The image above represents a small sample of the available left-handed instruments from Stagg, so be sure to check out their website for the full list (link below).

Stagg Music Website

The Stagg website displays left-handed options separately to their right-handed counterparts, making them fairly easy to spot.  However there is such a large number of products to sift through that it would be quite time consuming and tedious to flip through every page.

Luckily the site has a search function which you can use to throw up all of the left-handed products.  I’ve found that typing “lefthanded” (one word) in the search bar is the most reliable method.  Try it out and see if anything catches your eye.

LeftyGuitarsOnly – New USA Based Left-Handed Guitar Store

LeftyGuitarsOnly is a new left-handed guitar store located in Boston, USA.  After having spoken with the owner several months back I could swear that I had told you lovely people about this new company, but alas, I apparently have not! Let’s rectify that…

So perhaps you’ve heard of them by now, but in case you haven’t – LeftyGuitarsOnly is a new store which specializes in high-end left-handed acoustic and electric guitars.  In fact, many an average joe guitarist probably won’t have heard of a few of the highly sought after brands which the store stocks.  They really do have some exquisite pieces for sale which would almost certainly usually be a special order with a hefty waiting period attached.

All guitars are accompanied by some truly beautiful photography which really shows off each piece in its full glory. The store also stocks a small selection of amps, effects and accessories.

A useful feature of the website is a section which displays the guitars that are currently on order and should be arriving soon, as well as guitars which have just recently arrived.

Definitely give them a look if you’re hoping for something a little more exotic as your next guitar! Their showroom is open 10am-6pm Monday to Friday.

Mayones offer a good number of their guitars and basses in a left-handed version, with no added up-charge for the privilege. The images below show the range of models available, but keep in mind that a variety of extra options and colors are offered when ordering.

Chicken Picks Guitar Plectrums Review

As you’ve probably figured out by now I have a little smidgen of a guitar pick fetish going on.  They’re just an inexpensive way to add a little fresh excitement to the daily guitar practice session, and every now and again you stumble across one that becomes a firm favorite in your arsenal…

Last month I picked up a couple of interesting sounding boutique picks from a new company based in Holland called ChickenPicks. Read on to find out what I thought…

ChickenPicks Plectrum Review

First of all let’s start of by pointing out that ChickenPicks are thick, chunky plectrums – so if you like wussy little bendy picks then these are not for you.  At the moment they come in two sizes: light (between 2.1 and 2.4mm) and original (between 2.5 and 2.8mm).  The benefits of a thicker pick include more efficient playing, less grip required to hold on to them and a fuller, warmer guitar tone.

Both picks are white in color and have some indiscriminate graphics on the back to help differentiate the two.  The front of the pick is emblazoned with the ChickenPicks logo, which features some type of weird sock puppet looking character having a smoke.  As the picks come from Holland it isn’t too hard to guess what he’s smoking…

I’m assuming that they are finished by hand judging by the bevels on them.  These look very similar to the picks I made myself with the PickPunch, as it isn’t easy to get a perfectly smooth line by hand.  In saying that, these tiny little imperfections have no impact at all whilst playing.
