Great news for left-handed bass players: Ibanez has just added two new southpaw basses to the lineup – the BTB605L-TGF and EHB600L-WNF.
These are not completely new designs, as both already exist in right-handed form, but that hardly matters. What matters is that lefty players now get access to two very modern, very capable Ibanez basses that were previously off-limits unless you fancied playing upside down. And let’s be honest, we’ve all had enough of that.
Both models sit in Ibanez’s more forward-thinking bass ranges, with the BTB605L offering a powerful 5-string, neck-through design, while the EHB600L gives lefties a compact, headless 4-string option from the Ibanez Bass Workshop series.

Ibanez EHB600L-WNF

The new Ibanez EHB600L-WNF is a left-handed version of the popular EHB600, finished in Walnut Flat. This is a 4-string headless bass aimed at players who want something lightweight, compact, and highly practical without giving up tonal flexibility.
The EHB600L features an okoume body, paired with a 5-piece maple/jatoba neck and a jatoba fingerboard with 24 medium frets. As with the rest of the EHB family, the design is all about ergonomics. The headless format helps reduce overall length and neck dive, while the sculpted body shape and treble-side cutaway make upper-fret access much easier.
Electronics are handled by a pair of Ibanez a1 passive pickups, running through Ibanez Custom Electronics with a 3-band EQ. There is also an EQ bypass switch, with passive tone control on the treble pot, giving you a handy backup if you want a more traditional passive sound.
Other key specs include an MR5HS bridge, 19mm string spacing, black hardware, and factory-fitted D’Addario EXL165 strings in gauges .045–.105.
This looks like a brilliant option for lefty bassists who want a modern, portable, comfortable 4-string bass for gigging, recording, or long practice sessions.
Ibanez BTB605L-TGF

If the EHB600L is the compact modern option, the Ibanez BTB605L-TGF is the big, bold 5-string workhorse. Finished in Transparent Gray Flat, this left-handed BTB brings one of Ibanez’s most distinctive bass designs to southpaw players.
The BTB605L features neck-through construction, with a 5-piece maple/jatoba neck running through an okoume wing body. That construction is a big part of the BTB appeal, helping with sustain, stability, and smooth access to the higher frets.
You get a rosewood fingerboard, 24 medium frets plus a zero fret, and a 35-inch scale length, which should help keep the low B string tighter and more defined. For a 5-string bass, that matters.
Like the EHB600L, the BTB605L uses a pair of Ibanez ?1 passive pickups, but here they are paired with Ibanez Custom Electronics and a 3-band EQ with a 3-way mid-frequency switch. That means you can shape the mids more precisely, whether you want a deeper supporting tone, a punchier fingerstyle sound, or something more aggressive that cuts through a dense mix.
Other highlights include the MR5 bridge, 19mm string spacing, Cosmo black hardware, and factory-fitted D’Addario EXL170-5SL strings in gauges .045–.130.
For left-handed players who have been waiting for a more affordable BTB-style 5-string, this is a very welcome addition.
Final Thoughts
It is always good to see Ibanez expanding its left-handed range, especially with basses that are a little more adventurous than the usual entry-level fare. The EHB600L-WNF gives lefties a sleek, ergonomic headless 4-string, while the BTB605L-TGF finally offers a serious left-handed BTB 5-string option.
